Antibiotics destroy and kill useful bacteria. The latter are responsible for keeping yeast growth under check. When they are destroyed, yeasts can easily thrive, grow and multiply increasing the chances of your baby developing thrush.

Diaper Rash

This in experienced by nearly 50 percent of the babies the world over. The causes for diaper rash are numerous. It could be due to insanitary and unhygienic conditions or using the wrong type of diaper material, which the baby’s skin might have got allergic to.

Diaper rash can also occur if the baby’s skin is not allowed to dry sufficiently after washing the region. Continuous usage of diapers without allowing the skin to breathe can also lead to rashes formation.

In nearly 50 percent of the reported cases, yeast infection have been found to be the main culprit for causing diaper rash. These rashes appear predominantly bright red in color with raised patches.

Yeast could be transmitted from the mother to the baby at the time of delivery. In such cases, the baby’s skin is exposed to yeast found naturally in the vagina of the pregnant women.

If the mother is on antibiotics, there are high chances of antibiotics passing through breast milk and killing the useful bacteria found in the baby’s body. This will provide optimum environment for the growth and development of yeasts in the baby’s skin.

The chances of the baby acquiring yeast infections from affected family members are very high. In some cases, the chances of the mother being infected from yeast infections while breastfeeding the affected baby is also possible.

Antifungal medications are sufficient in treating yeast infections. Allowing the skin to breathe normally and preventing build up of moisture are crucial for speedy recovery. It is advisable to use cotton clothes to cover the baby. This will prevent unwanted irritation.
