Acne is caused due to over production of oil from the sebaceous glands on the skin. The sebaceous glands get clogged and at times infected by bacteria, which gives rise to pimples on the surface of the skin.
Acne normally occurs due to fluctuating hormones, predominance of the androgen hormones, poor hygiene, heredity, eating too much of junk food and over use of cosmetics. While acne can be easily remedied, the pimples often leave behind unsightly marks that can cause pits and scars on the surface of the skin. The scars can become permanent, if left untreated. Here are some simple home remedies for the treatment of acne scars.
Home Remedies For Acne Scars
The first and foremost step for reducing the appearance of acne scars is a change in the diet. This includes intake of at least 8-9 glasses of water in a day and consumption of fruits and vegetables like greens, berries and broccoli all of which are good for the skin. The person should desist from consuming fried and fatty food, which can lead to more acne.
Skin Care Regime
You need to incorporate a daily skin care regime in order to get rid of acne scars. This includes using a mild anti-bacterial soap or face wash for the acne-affected skin. Use a scrub containing salicylic acid, which acts as an exfoliant. Follow this up with skin toning and the use of an oil free moisturizer that just firms up your skin. Avoid touching the pimples as this can lead to severe pitting and scarring. The use of cosmetics should be banned until the time your skin clears up.
Take supplements, which are healthy for your skin. These include the skin enriching vitamin A, vitamin B and vitamin C. Along with this you also need to take zinc and selenium.
Sandalwood paste is known to reduce acne scarring. Make a sandalwood paste by dissolving sandalwood into a solution of rose water. Apply this paste on your face and allow it to dry. Wash this off after 5-10 minutes. Your skin will glow. Continue this treatment for at least a month until you see visible results.
The juice of a lime helps to lighten the acne scars by bleaching the skin. Just dip a piece of cotton into limejuice and apply this on your face. Wash it off once it dries. Your skin will be visibly fairer and the scars will be less prominent.
Tomatoes are great for the skin as they are mild and have antioxidant properties in them, which help to heal and fade acne scars. Rub a few slices of tomatoes on your face. Alternately, make a paste of tomato pulp and cucumber juice and apply this on your face for best results.
Aloe Vera gel can be directly applied on the affected area of the skin. This helps to cool and heal the acne scars.
Honey has anti septic and healing properties. Apply it on your face and let it dry. Wash it off after some time. It helps to seal the pores and prevents the formation of more pimples.
