Thai Peanut Sauce Recipe

Peanut Sauce is one of the very quick and easy to make sauce. Although this is the Thai Sauce, it adds great taste in Indian and Chinese snacks. In this recipe fresh peanuts are used instead of peanut butter to add more to the freshness, taste and nutrition value to the sauce.

Peanuts are rich in vitamin B2, B3. Peanuts are very helpful in cancer protection and also help in reducing the cholesterol levels. This is perfectly balanced sauce with hot, sour and sweet taste which can suit to every taste buds.

Appliances Required

1 sauce Pan
1 Small steel bowl

Ingredients required

1 cup unsalted peanuts
2 teaspoons of dark soy sauce
2 teaspoons of sesame oil or olive oil
1 to 2 Tbsp. brown sugar, to taste
1/2 tablespoon of tamarind paste OR 1 Lemon (as a substitute)
1 Red chili cayenne (it is a large red chili)
10 -11Mint leaves

Roast the peanuts and remove the red covering from it. The thin red peeling of peanuts can be removed by using the bottom of the small steel bowl, revolving in the circular motion. Dip large red chili or cayenne in vinegar for almost 2 hours.

Place peanuts, red chili, Garlic, coconut, mint leaves and some water in a grinder and process it in a smooth paste. Now Add some milk or coconut milk as per the requirement of the constancy and process it again. After the formation of the smooth consistent sauce add   2 teaspoons of dark soy sauce and 2 teaspoons of sesame oil or olive oil, some sugar and some Tamarind paste and salt to taste.

The proportion of tamarind and sugar is all in your control, so you can alter the proportion according to your taste. If you want sweeter raise the proportion of the sugar and if more sour raise the proportion of the tamarind or Lemon juice. This sauce or dip can be served warm as well as room temperature. This finger licking peanut sauce tastes awesome with spring rolls, Thai chicken satay, Indian Pokoras, French fries, Potato wedges etc.

The sauce can also be used as a salad dressing. Just pour the sauce in your salad and enjoy the sweet sour taste. If you are a Sandwich Lover then this sauce is the unresisting for you. Mix the entire sandwich filling specially vegetables with the sauce, and spread the dressing on the bread.

Grill the sandwich and enjoy. This Sauce can also be used for marinating purpose, when mixed with curd. You can marinate chicken, fish, Panner. It will add a great rich taste to the gravy. As peanuts are good source of oil as well so you do not need any external oil while using it in sandwich or salads.


This sauce can stay for 2 to 3 weeks. This will get thicken as it sits, so just add some water or some coconut into it. Store the sauce in freeze.
