Miscarriage is an end to pregnancy where the fetus is not capable of surviving.  Miscarriage normally ends before 20 weeks of pregnancy. It is loss of fetus. It is also known as spontaneous abortion.  It is more common for women whose  age is more than thirty five.  Sometimes miscarriages occur before the woman recognizes that she is pregnant.

There are certain symptoms of miscarriage including vaginal bleeding, cramping, severe abdominal pain, pelvic pressure, Clots or tissues from vagina and decrease in signs of pregnancy.

Vaginal Bleeding

It mostly occurs in pregnant women. Vaginal bleeding will not always result in miscarriage. It may also be due to irritation in cervical. It is often observed that around 10 – 15% of pregnant women experience bleeding during pregnancy. Many women with bleeding may also have healthy pregnancies. But on the other side, it is the early and first sign of incomplete miscarriage.

It is caused by organic problems of reproductive systems. The bleeding may be in red, pink or brown in color. The bleeding will also be light, heavy, constant and irregular. Women with such bleeding should definitely visit a doctor. The doctor prescribes medical exam to know the exact reason. Bleeding during pregnancy is called as threatened abortion.

Cramping is very common during pregnancy. As the body changes and the uterus extends to make the fetus fit in the womb, there occurs minor cramps. It is only a matter of concern when cramping is followed by spotting or bleeding. It can be a sign of miscarriage.

The person has to definitely consult a doctor once they observe, severe cramping together with spotting. Woman may also experience abdominal pain or back pain. Serious abdominal pain is also a sign of miscarriage.  Cramping and abdominal pain occurs sometimes only on one side, both sides or in the middle. The pain can also be in the lower back, buttocks, and genitals.

Miscarriage can also occur due to pressure in pelvic area. There exist situations where pelvic pressure is common during early days of pregnancy. If the pelvic pressure occurs along with bleeding and cramping then it is a cause of concern. It is also a symptom of miscarriage.

Passing of heavy blood clots or tissue from vagina in early days of pregnancy is also a symptom of miscarriage. Tissues such as embryo or fetus pass  through uterus when miscarriage happens.

Sometimes there may be sudden absence of signs of pregnancy such as nausea or breast swelling/tenderness. This is also a sign of miscarriage. When a woman feels that she has no signs of pregnancy, it is always advisable to consult a doctor and get an ultrasound scan and fetal heart monitoring.

It is not a continuing problem that cannot be diagnosed and treated.  It is not right to think that a woman who has miscarriage has some health problem.
