HIV/AIDS is one such disease, which imparts different symptoms on every patient. Although there are certain common symptoms like flu, fever, and headache but these are not sufficient to determine whether a woman is really suffering from this dangerous disease.
Women especially homemakers, of certain countries like India always show a reluctant approach towards their health. They don’t show much concern if they suffer from small and regular illnesses like flu and fever. Hence, until something serious and weird occurs, they don’t visit the doctor.
And it is only then that the doctor can identify and recommend tests for checking their HIV status. But apart from the common symptoms, there be certain symptoms of AIDS, which are different in men and women.
Symptoms Of HIV In Women
Flu, Fever and Headache
These are some of the most common and initial symptoms of AIDS. The patient may exhibit persistent flu like symptoms, like fever, headache, body ache, sore throat and fatigue. Both men and women demonstrate these symptoms, but these are not adequate to evaluate that the patient is suffering from AIDS.
These symptoms are observed because the body fights with the virus and tries to throw it out of the body. And in this process, the temperature of the body may increase, thereby exhibiting flu like symptoms.
Abnormal Weight Loss and Loss of Appetite
Women suffering from AIDS may experience drastic weight loss without even undergoing any exercise or diet plan. Their appetite may also reduce tremendously, resulting in decreased body strength. Apart from these, the patient may also suffer from diarrhea and fatigue.
Glands in various parts of the body may swell up, due to any kinds of infections. Swollen glands are also symptoms of flu, but they may also be observed in a patient suffering from AIDS. Glands in groin area, neck and armpits may swell up for fighting the residing microorganisms in the body and to get rid of them.
Rashes on the face and other body parts of an AIDS patient are very common. This symptom combined with the other symptoms may confirm whether a patient is really suffering from AIDS or not. The rashes on the face may disappear after a certain days, but they may persist on the other body parts of the patient till the end of this disease.
Recurrent Vaginal Infections
Women suffering from AIDS may display recurring vaginal infection, caused due to yeast. These infections may occur within very short intervals of time and they may persist for a long duration.
Abnormal Pap Smear
Papanicolaou test or pap test is conducted to detect the cancerous and pre-cancerous activities in the endocervical canal of a woman’s reproductive system.
This test is done to search for anal cancers. A woman suffering from AIDS may exhibit abnormal pap smears in the pap screening test. And this may be one of the first symptoms to identify that the patient has already adopted the disease.
The HIV virus can cause a very serious illness in the cervical zone of a woman. This illness is termed as cervical dysplasia and it may lead to the formation of cancerous cell, if left undetected and untreated.
