Maintain the eye hygiene of the child by wiping them with luke warm water after every two hours or as needful. Warm compresses placed on the outside of the eyelid alleviate the shooting pain in the infected eyes.

Lubricating eye drops also make the child feel better. The drops of rose water are the safest option. As the eye becomes light sensitive, which the child might not explain you, so make the room dim lighted for his comfort.

Antibiotic ointments or drops as prescribed by an eye specialist may help bacterial form of conjunctivitis. Besides these measures take care that wiping cloth, towel, pillowcases of the child is not shared by any other member of the family.

Viral Conjunctivitis

This usually affects only one eye, which has excessive watering and a light discharge. Crusting might appear in this case also. Usually, eye doctors do not prescribe medication for viral conjunctivitis, because it subsides on it’s own in a few days. Allergical Conjunctivitis

To avoid allergical conjunctivitis, you can try following tips:

Make the child least exposed to environment polluted with smoke, chemicals, or fumes. When the air borne pollen count is high during harvesting period, prefer to keep the doors and windows closed. Dust and vacuum your house regularly and specially your baby’s soft toys, to eliminate allergens in your home.
