A very common and familiar skin condition known as Acne or Acne Vulgaris, is something which upsets us all, isn’t it? This skin disease is characterized by the presence of pimples, black heads, white heads and nodules. There may also occur scarring due to acne. Acne vulgaris or call it simply acne, occurs at the parts of our body such as face, upper part of the chest and the back.

Acne

People who develop acne may have it in mild, moderate or in severe forms. The area of the skin which has the densest population of sebaceous follicles is mostly affected by acne. Comedones or the black or white heads appear when the sebaceous gland follicles are blocked or clogged due to keratin and sebum (natural oil produced  by the sebaceous glands consisting of fats and dead cells).

When these conditions appear, a bacterium, Propionibacterium acnes, may cause inflammation there. This inflammatory process can lead to the formation of pimples or nodules around the affected area which can lead to scarring.

Acne is a common skin condition that mostly occurs due to increase of testosterone levels in a person when they reach their adolescence, irrespective of the gender. This skin condition is mostly self-healing and is known to  diminish by itself when a person reaches their 20s. There is also a kind of acne vulgaris known as cystic acne, in which, cysts develop on the areas where sweat is collected in the hair follicles, such as in the armpit.
