Sore throat can be followed by fits of sneezing, fever, coughing and tenderness in the neck due to the swollen glands. There is difficulty in swallowing and the voice becomes hoarse and gruff.
Sometimes certain bacteria known as streptococcal bacteria can also cause sore throat. Excessive smoking, straining the vocal chords unduly, allergies and breathing through the mouth also contribute to sore throats. Tips to Relieve Sore Throat Naturally
Turmeric powder is extensively used in cooking and no dish is complete without this essential spice. Turmeric has remarkable antibacterial, antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties which deal with all kinds of infections and effect quick healing. Heat one teaspoon of ghee. Turn off the flame and roast a teaspoon of turmeric powder in the hot ghee for four seconds. Swallow the warm roasted turmeric with a glass of hot milk every night before going to bed. The tenderness and scratchiness in the throat will soon vanish and the coughing too will abate.
Tulsi is an elixir and has been used most effectively since time immemorial for spiritual and physical healing. It is a great remedy for sore throat as it heals the infection most efficaciously. Its antiviral, anti-inflammatory and detoxifying properties purify the blood and keep the respiratory system clean and healthy. Take ten fresh tulsi leaves and boil them in a cup of water till the water is reduced to half. Strain the decoction, add a teaspoon of honey and drink the mixture three times a day until your throat is completely healed.
Ginger is another common household item which is widely used in flavoring every kind of dish. No dish is complete without a dash of crushed ginger added to it. Ginger has manifold healing and curative powers and is a panacea for every kind of disease and ailment. It not only reduces and cures the soreness but also helps in the fever and cold. Grate a big piece of fresh ginger and squeeze it to extract the juice. Warm the juice for three seconds, mix a teaspoon of honey with it and swallow it quickly. Do not drink water for at least half an hour.
Cloves have anesthetic properties which help in relieving the pain and soreness of an infected throat. Take three cloves and pound them coarsely. Put to boil one cup of water and add the pounded cloves to it. Boil for three minutes and allow the decoction to stand for five minutes. Strain and add a little mishri to it. Drink this, at least three times a day until your throat is completely cured.
Vinegar has an immediate soothing effect on a sore throat. Heat a glass of water and add three teaspoons of white vinegar to it. Gargle with this mixture allowing it to remain in the throat for a few seconds. Gargle at least twice a day regularly. The pain and swelling will reduce within no time.
