How To Wallpaper A Room

Before you begin to clean or prime the walls, turn off all electrical sockets and switches. Put duct tape to cover all the sockets. Remove all the furniture away from the walls so that it becomes easy to install the wallpaper.
Wall putty needs to be applied to any nail holes or cracks in the wall. This helps to smoothen the wall. Thereafter, you will have to grit the walls with find sand paper. This helps to smoothen out coarse edges.
In case you are staying in a tropical climate, there will be a good chance of mildew on the walls. Mix one cup of bleach with a gallon of water and gently scrub the wall surfaces that have been affected by mildew.
Priming
The next step is to prime the walls with the help of a primer. The primer helps the wallpaper to adhere better to the walls. Before that, clean the walls off any stains with the help of a cleaning solution.
Ascertain Your Need
Depending on how much wall surface area you will be covering with wallpaper, take measurements. You will need to measure the height and breadth of each wall to determine the amount of wallpaper required.

The Procedure
Mark a point on the wall that is a couple of inches shorter than the width of the paper next to the doorway. Using a measuring tape, measure the vertical length of the wall from the ceiling to the floor in such a way that you keep two inches extra of wallpaper. This line will divide the previous point you chose.
Once you have the wallpaper, use the manufacturer’s instructions and apply the wallpaper paste on the wall that you wish to cover. Now stick the wallpaper and make sure it is in line with the lines you have just marked on the wall. You have to be very careful while pasting the wallpaper to prevent any wrinkles on the paper.

The extra edges can be trimmed and cut off carefully with a knife. You will have to do this with a lot of finesse to prevent the wallpaper from tearing off. Make sure you align all the patterns on the wall especially if you are using patterned wallpaper. Let the wallpaper set for 15 minutes.
