When you are having family or guests over to your place, it is vital that your guest bedroom is well stocked, neat and clean with all the possible comforts that your guests could want. One should plan and equip the guest bed room in such a way that as the host you don’t have to be running around on your feet catering to their every need. Here are a few things that you need to remember.
Your guest beds should be sufficiently large and spacious. Make sure you air out the mattresses before the guests come. Spare sheets, pillow covers, quilts and bed covers must be catered for. Store these in the storage space provided under the bed or fold them into neat stacks and put them in the guest room cupboard so that they are within the reach of the guest. You also need to provide a set of 2 towels per head for your guests. Do cater for hand towels and napkins.
Make sure you have some space where your guests can store their luggage. Place a table or empty out the over head cabinets where all the suit cases can go. Give adequate space to the guests to store their clothing. For this, empty out a cupboard if required. Place 10-15 extra hangers. Shoe drawers and shoe racks must be catered for.
Ensure that your bathroom is cleaned out nicely. Check to see that the flush, taps, geyser and electrical sockets are working properly. Make sure that the bathroom has all the necessary fitments to hang clothes, towels and to keep toiletries. Equip the bathroom with toothbrushes, toothpastes, soap, shampoo, face washes, razors, shaving cream and some other essentials. Have a foot mat placed outside the bathroom. Place odonil to keep your bathroom smelling sweet and clean.
Have a magazine stand placed in the bedroom which is well stocked with reading material. Your bed side tables should cater for bed side lamps and a night light for small infants. Keep a small electric kettle for the baby if he/she is on formula milk. That way the milk can be heated up in the bed room itself without running to the kitchen. Cater for some seating where the guests can laze around instead of having to sit on the bed.
You can incorporate a sofa-cum bed for older kids. Have a jug of water and glasses kept on the side table. Provide your guests with candles and torches. Don’t forget to put mosquito repellents. If the space permits, provide an ironing table and an iron to your guests. Cater for some biscuits and snacks which the guests can munch on with their morning tea.
Do take out the trouble to do up your guest room well. After all the room should radiate warmth and and a soft appeal when you have guests over. Put classy curtains in muted tones. Have one or two sets of exotic bed spreads that will enhance the beauty of the room. Put up a couple of paintings. Include some flowers and candles. Cushion covers and table spreads should be sophisticated.
