While choosing from a menu in a hotel or a restaurant, our obvious predilection towards pizza is not surprising to anyone, thanks to its mellowing appearance and divine taste that are enough for our hearts to fall for it.
Eaten widely across the globe, this baked dish can be prepared with umpteen toppings– cheese, tomato sauce, mozzarella, artichokes, ham, sour cream, and herbs, to name a few. Those who abhor non-vegetarian toppings can relish it too as vegetarian pizzas are also available in market. But why not give it a trial at home? Though Pizza base or crust is readily is available, we are going to learn to prepare it from scratch.
250 gm wheat flour
Big tsp olive oil
Some warm water
Salt and sugar to taste
A large sized onion
A tsp yeast (dried)
2-3 cloves of garlic
2 medium size tomatoes
Half cup mozzarella cheese
7-8 spinach leaves
An egg plant
A big potato
¼ cup basil leaves
1-2 bell peppers
Making Pizza Dough:
It is the most crucial part of pizza making. Start by sieving the flour in a bowl. To it add, add olive oil; mix with a ladle. Now add some water to start making the dough. Also add yeast to the mixture. Knead properly with hands to make smooth dough. Continue for 3-4 minutes. Keep it aside for about half an hour to allow yeast to do its work i.e. leavening.
You will see that the dough has risen. To start rolling it, transfer it over a plane surface. But before that, dust some flour over the surface. Dust a bit over the dough also and start rolling with a rolling pin. The pin helps in stretching the dough to make a flat circular round. Make sure that the dough is at least ½ inch thick after it is completely rolled.
Transfer to a Baking Tray:
Smear some cooking oil over the baking sheet and place the rolled dough over it.
Making the Toppings
Now comes the vegetable part… For the vegetables like potato and egg plant, some prior cooking is required. But do not cook them completely as they will also be put to baking after this.
It is good to start with tomatoes. Either place chopped tomatoes over the crust or pour some tomato sauce. Spread the contents all over. Cover this with cooked slices of potato and egg plant. To these, add some fresh spinach leaves, basil leaves, garlic paste and chopped mushrooms. Also place some broccoli leaves. Spread slices cheese and finally top with thin onion slices. Dust some salt over the top.
Set the temperature of the microwave to about 420-425 degree Fahrenheit. Preheat it. Place the baking sheet containing topped pizza in it and allow to bake for 15 minutes.
Dress the baked pizza with bell peppers.
You can choose any vegetables you like for your pizza. But do not use all of them! Let your taste buds distinguish each and every ingredient that use.
