Paneer Tikka masala is an authentic Punjabi dish. Punjabis relish food and they are known for their weakness for rich and spicy food. In every Punjabi home paneer dish is a must have on the menu whenever there is a formal get together or a wedding. Paneer is cooked and served in various forms, it is served as a snack, as a dish and as a dessert.
The given recipe of Spicy Paneer Tikka Masala can be served as a starter with cocktail and Mocktail or it can be served as a dish in the main course. The plus point of preparing Paneer Tikka Masala is that you only need to marinate the paneer and it requires very little time to grill it. It saves you last minute hassles that you may face while serving fried snacks.
Paneer or cottage cheese is easily available in the market. You can prepare fresh paneer at home and you cannot beat the taste of fresh homemade paneer with a commercial preparation.
To make paneer at home boil the milk and add a few drops of lemon or vinegar to it. As soon as the milk starts to curdle, remove it from fire and pass it through a sieve. Wrap the paneer in muslin and place it under a weight for 1-2 hours to set. When the paneer is set, remove the cloth and cut it as required.
Paneer is a rich source of calcium and protein with very little amount of fats. It is a dieter’s diet and it helps to reduce weight. It is energy booster and is recommended for convalescing patients, lactating mothers and elderly people, kids just love it.
Curd is used for marinating. It helps to soften the paneer and increases its taste and nutritional content. This particular recipe of Paneer Tikka Masala is prepared without fat. It is healthy, tasty and nutritious.
Paneer (cottage cheese) – 250 grams
Curd- 100 grams
Red Chili powder- ½ tea spoon
Turmeric- ¼ tea spoon
Salt to taste
Grated Ginger- ¼ cup
Orange Color- a few drops
Chaat masala to sprinkle on top
1. Cut paneer in big chunks. Put it in a large bowl. Add curd, ginger, red chili powder, salt, turmeric, and orange color to the paneer pieces. Mix well, cover and keep it to marinate for 2-3 hours.
2. Heat a non stick girdle and grill the paneer evenly from all sides. Remove the paneer Tikka in a snack dish and sprinkle chaat masala on it. Serve hot with green chutney and hot garlic sauce.
3. You can grill the paneer in an oven on the grill mode or pierce them through a skewer and grill on rotisserie. Keep turning the pieces in between for even browning.
While serving Paneer Tikka pierce a tooth pick through each piece to make it easy to pick. If you want to serve Paneer Tikka as a dish then omit the grilling step and cook marinated paneer pieces in masala gravy. Garnish with fresh coriander and serve hot with rotis.
