Smokey eyes are all around the runways and red carpets these days. So, if you want to look like a diva by recreating this look right at your home, you should follow some of these techniques mentioned in this article. Smokey eye has become a very popular look among ladies these days. It is predominantly worn for the nighttime parties and outings; however, you can also alter it slightly to create the right look for even daytime celebrations.
Tips to Get Smokey Eyes
Prepare the Base
Make sure that you don’t have early night makeup traces on your eye lids because those things can really mess up with your final look. And even if you face such nuisances, you can simply use a good makeup remover instead of panicking. Other than that, you can also use a good quality eye makeup remover if you want to be specific and detailed. Once you have removed all the bits of your previous makeup, use a good concealer to conceal all your under eye dark circles and wrinkles. Use your finger tip to softly blend it with your skin, but make sure that it is not smudged beyond limits. Or else, it will simply get washed away and will do nothing to hide your imperfections.
Get the Primer
After you have got rid of all the makeup traces, take an eye primer and put dots of it all around your eyes. Blend the primer nicely so that it doesn’t look blotchy. You can also use a brush to blend the primer thoroughly. Make sure that the color of the eye primer matches with your skin tone. It should not be more than two shades lighter than your skin tone, or else it would look awkward. Other than that, you can also ward off the confusion of skin tone with a colorless eye primer.
Sweep on the Shadow Wash
Prior to moving on to your hard core smokey eyes look, you must prepare the eye lids with a flesh or neutral colored eye shadow. For that, choose a matt or shimmery skin colored eye shadow that perfectly matches your skin tone. You can either choose a powder or a cream based eye shadow for that purpose. To apply a powder eye shadow, sweep your eye shadow brush just once over your eye shadow palette and then rub it lightly over your eyelids to create a smooth base. Well, if you are using a cream base eye shadow, then just dab a little bit of it and then just blend it on with your finger tip.
Draw the Line
After you have finished preparing your eyelid with the shadow wash, take your black eyeliner pencil and carefully trace your lash line with it. Keep the line thinner towards the inner end and finish off by pulling it thickly towards the outer end, so that you get a cat-eye look. Once done, take a shadow brush and gently drag the upper level of the eyeliner towards the upper side of you eyelids. Make sure that you don’t drag the entire eyeliner out of its place; just blend some of it with the eyelids. Once done, you can also sweep the liner over your waterline if you want a more dramatic and vivid look.
Grab the Eye Shadow
Finally it’s time for you to put on the eye shadow. Make sure that you choose an eye shadow palette that has at least 3 complementary colors. With that, dab on a little bit of the lightest of the three shades and then brush it on to your eyelid, all the way up to the crease. After that, brush on the medium shade which is not the darkest of them all. Brush that shade while diffusing the eyeliner upto the crease. Blend the shadow nicely by pulling it right upto the outer corner of the eye, but avoid over applying it at the middle or inner corner of the eye. Once done, use a good blending brush to apply the darkest color to the outer corner of your eye. Gently blend the darkest color with the rest of the shades. Once done, take the lightest color once again and gently blend it below your brow bone.
Dash of Mascara
Once you are completed with the smokey eye look, do not get overwhelmed to forget the mascara. If you have created the smokey eyes look with black eye makeup products, make sure that you also choose the black color for your mascara. Swipe the wand of your mascara lightly over your lower and upper lashes, but do not overdo the amount. Once complete, curl your lashes with an eyelash curler and then finish off the look with a second coat of eyeliner if you wish.
