A throat infection is also known by the name pharyngitis. The throat infection can be a bacterial or a viral infection which leads to inflammation in the throat tissues accompanied by pain, swelling and redness in the throat walls. The throat is a structure that looks like a tube and it carries food to the esophagus and passes the air to the windpipe which is called by the name larynx.
