Cramps during Fertilization

Abdominal cramps may be felt by a woman during the time of implantation of the eggs in the body. When the eggs fertilize, they move towards the uterus. The embryo then gets implanted in the uterus lining triggering the process of pregnancy. Usually this phenomenon occurs at a time the woman is unaware of her pregnancy. Hence, at this time any distress or discomfort is usually ignored or taken lightly and blamed on indigestion.

Once the embryo has been implanted, the uterus expands itself to prepare for the pregnancy. This involves stretching of the muscles to make space to accommodate the developing embryo in the womb. Some pregnant women experience slight bleeding during the first trimester. Mild spotting is common and causes bearable pain in the abdomen area. Nevertheless, if there is continuous bleeding and the pain aggravates, the gynaecologist concerned should be immediately consulted to prevent miscarriage.

Formation of Cysts

At times, cysts form at the site where the eggs are released and obstruct the release of progesterone till the time the embryo gets implanted in the womb. This cyst is termed as ‘corpus luteum’ and is quite painful and distressing.
