Chilli Paneer is one of the most delectable Indo-Chinese cuisines , which you can easily find in the Indian restaurants or any of the Chinese food corners. This delicious recipe is prepared by using cottage cheese (Paneer) with Chinese flavors. This scrumptious Chilli Paneer dish is a good source of protein and perfect as a part of a healthy diet.

This hot and spicy dish is the best combination of Indian and Chinese style cooking, where traditional paneer is cooked in Chinese sauces.  It is served as a starter, appetizer or even as an accompaniment with main course.

You might have tasted chilli potato, chilli chicken, chilli gobi etc. but for those who are vegetarians and love paneer, this dish is a nice replacement for chilli chicken. Try this delicious recipe once and trust me it will make your taste buds dance.

Ingredients For Chili Paneer Recipe

250 grams Paneer (cottage cheese) cubes
1 tsp. grated Ginger
2 tsps. Garlic, chopped
1/4 cup Spring onions (white part), chopped
2-3 Green chilles
1 Red onion, chopped
2 cup Capsicum, chopped
1 tsp. Soy sauce
1 tsp. Tomato ketchup
2 tsps. oil
Salt to taste

For the Marinade

1 tsp. Corn flour
1/4 cup Plain flour (maida)
1 tsp. Soy sauce
1/2 tsp. Pepper powder
1 tsp. Ginger- garlic paste
Salt to taste
Water as required

For Garnishing

1/2 cup Spring onion (greens), chopped

Preparation Method For Chili Paneer Recipe

First, let us marinate Paneer to bring that tangy and amazing flavor to our recipe. For this, cut   paneer into small cubes and keep aside. Now a take bowl and mix Maida, Corn flour, pepper powder, ginger -garlic paste, soy sauce and salt. Slowly, add little water to form a thick paste. Add paneer cubes to this paste and coat them well. Heat a non -stick pan and toast the coated paneer using very little oil. Fry each side for few minutes until it turns golden brown. Remove from the pan and set aside.

Heat oil in a pan, add chopped green chilies, ginger, garlic and sauté for a minute or two. Then add chopped red onions and cook till they are lightly browned. Now add diced capsicum, springs onions and fry for a minute. Then add soya sauce, tomato sauce and pepper powder. Mix well so that the veggies are coated evenly.

Now, add the remaining marinade batter of cornflour and maida. Make sure, it is not more than one or two tablespoons. Stir continuously as it tends to stick to the bottom of the pan, also sprinkle some water to reduce stickiness. Finally, add toasted paneer cubes and give a quick stir. It will not take too long to prepare this dish as we need the crunchy bite of onions and capsicum. Keep stirring occasionally and in the next five minutes your hot and tangy dish will be done. Transfer into a serving platter and garnish with chopped spring onions. Serve hot as a side dish with fried rice, noodles or just as a starter.


1) You can also deep fry paneer cubes instead of shallow fry.

2) You can also use Tofu (Soy paneer) for a healthier version.

3) You can use different colors of capsicum for a more healthy and colorful version.

4) You can adjust the seasonings as per your choice.

5) You can skip the gravy part if you want to have dry Chilli paneer.
