5 Home Remedies For Poison Oak

Home Remedies For Poison Oak

Many people who come in contact with poison oak develop a rash. The leaves, stems and roots of this plant contain an oily resin known as urushiol. Urushiol is a deadly plant poison and those who are allergic to it develop an itchy rash. Poison ivy and sumac also contain urshiol. As soon as a person, who is allergic, comes in contact with the sap, an allergic reaction is set off causing contact dermatitis. The symptoms are related to the severity of the exposure and to the sensitivity of the individual.

Some people develop only a mild rash and the symptoms too are mild while some people who are highly sensitive have particularly severe symptoms even after a mild exposure. The onset of the rash takes about two to three days after exposure. Sometimes it may not appear for a week or so. Itchy bumps and blisters appear in a curved line. They keep appearing for several days due to a slow reaction to absorbed urushiol. It seems as if the rash is spreading although the fluid in the blisters does not contain any infection. Poison oak rash can be easily treated at home with simple remedies.
