You can also sip on a salt and sugar solution of water to maintain the electrolyte balance in the body. Consume at least 8-12 cups of water if you have diarrhoea and are running a fever. Juices made at home, like limejuice and orange juice are good. Ginger ale can give relief from acidity and heartburn.
Oral Rehydration Therapy
Buy small pouches of electrolyte like ORS. This just needs to be dissolved into water and had. It helps to replace the lost potassium and sodium content in the body. Take small sips. Gulping down may lead to more vomiting.
Yoghurt is excellent for patients suffering from diarrhoea. It is not only soothing to the stomach lining but also contains active cultures of beneficial bacteria that line your gut and give you protection from potential pathogens. You can take plain yoghurt or take it in the form of buttermilk, which also keeps you hydrated.
Get Rest and Sleep
Diarrhoea can be very debilitating and weakening so it is important that you get enough rest. Stay in bed and try to sleep it off. You will feel better in 24-48 hours.
