No longer do you need to sit for hours in front of the mirror with flat irons and other styling tools in your hand trying to manage the curly mass of hair! We give you a list of tips and tricks that will help you reveal the real beauty of curly hair.
Tips To Care For Curly Hair
Do Not Use Heat
Use Proper Shampoos And Conditioners
Most people do not worry about the brand of shampoo and conditioner they use for their hair. But professional hairstylists insist on the use of hair washes made for a particular type of hair.
For instance, women with curly hair must use clarifying shampoos and conditioners which protect against chlorinated water. This is because dirt and germs stick more in the folds of curly hair; they can easily be washed off from straight hair.
Do Not Shampoo Everyday
Washing curly hair daily may make it soft and smooth to touch. But in reality the natural oil of hair is being removed if you wash hair everyday. This makes the hair frizzy and dry. Professional hairstylists are of the opinion that curly hair requires more moisture to look healthy than straight hair. To avoid premature drying and breakage, wash only twice or thrice a week.
Use Live In Conditioners
Hair conditioners that work wonders for straight hair, may not provide the same result in curly hair. Use live in conditioners and keep for at least five minutes before washing with lukewarm water. Go for a deep conditioning treatment once a month. While applying live in conditioners, start application from once inch below the root of hair extending up to tip of each strand. Do not rub hair in hands and spread the conditioner evenly.
Keep Hair Detangled
A curly haired lady will in all likelihood have tangles in her hair at various points in time throughout the day. Make sure to use a comb with wide teeth and detangling spray before brushing hair. Never comb very dry hair as this leads to excess breakage. Comb hair at least twice a day, after shower and before bedtime.
Do Not Towel Dry Hair
Avoid wrapping a towel in your hair after washing. The friction caused leads to frizziness once the hair is dry. Just press the towel on hair to soak in excess water. It is recommended that you use a soft t-shirt for wiping curly hair.
Use The Right Hair Products
Do not pile up hair styling products on curly hair. Know which product works best to accentuate the curls. Curling mousse and curling gel are two such products that every girl with curly hair must invest in. Stick to herbal hair products and use very small quantities of gel or mousse, spreading them evenly in hair.
