French dressing recipe French dressing is used to make different salads. It is oil and vinegar based dressing rather sweet in taste. It is also a little spicy in taste. Worcestershire sauce and paprika are the main ingredients. There are many ways to make this dressing.

Some people make it by adding tomato ketchup giving it an orange colour, some by adding mayonnaise and cream giving it a white colour and some people by adding chopped onions. French dressing can also be used in sandwiches. It gives a nice flavour especially with raw cucumber, iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, capsicum and onions.

French Dressing Classic

Ingredients

½ cup extra virgin olive oil
¼ cup apple cider vinegar
4-5 garlic chopped
1teaspoon salt
2 teaspoon white sugar
½ teaspoon white pepper
½ teaspoon paprika or chilli flakes
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
½ teaspoon mustard powder

Method

Mix all the ingredients in a large glass jar with a screw lid. Shake well and refrigerate for 2 to 4 hours. Use as required. It is very easy to prepare and takes very little time. Instead of shaking you can blend all the ingredients in a blender. You can prepare this dressing in advance and store it in the refrigerator for 5-7 days.

French Dressing Using Tomato Ketchup

Preparation time: 10 minutes
Refrigeration time: 6 hrs
Serves: 5 -6

Ingredients

4-5 cloves crushed garlic
1 teaspoon salt
1/2teaspoon white pepper
1 teaspoon paprika powder
1 cup tomato canned tomato pulp
½ cup tomato ketchup
½ cup apple cider vinegar
1 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
½ cup extra virgin olive oil
1 small onion finely chopped

Method

1. In a clean dry jar with a screw lid combine all the ingredients tomato pulp, Ketchup, onions, spices oil and all the other ingredients.

2. Close the lid and shake vigorously and refrigerate for at least 6 hours. Use as and when required. Depending on your taste you can also add dried mixed Italian herbs like oregano, basil, thyme, mint, lemon rind and any other herb of your choice to give it a good twist. Herbs lend a good aroma to the dressing and can also be eaten as a dip with chips, salads or different breads.

Preparation time: 10 minutes
Refrigeration time: 4 hrs
Serves: 4 to 5

Ingredients

1/2cup apple cider vinegar
½ cup extra virgin olive oil
3-4 cloves crushed garlic
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon red chilli powder
½ teaspoon mustard powder
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon white pepper
½ teaspoon dry basil
½ teaspoon dry oregano
½ teaspoon dry mint
½ teaspoon thyme
½ teaspoon lemon rind optional

Method

1. Combine all the ingredients in a clean dry jar.

2. Shake nicely and refrigerate. You can also blend all the ingredients in a blender to save time.

Creamy French Dressing

The smooth and creamy flavour gives this dressing an edge and makes it one of the favourites. It goes well with everything; salad topper, sandwich spread and dips with chips and nachos.

Serves: 6 to 7

Ingredients

½ cup fresh cream
½ cup mayonnaise
½ cup canned tomato pulp
2 tablespoons tomato ketchup
½ cup white sugar
½ cup apple cider vinegar
2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
4 -6 cloves crushed garlic
1 teaspoon mixed Italian herbs
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon white pepper
½ cup extra virgin olive oil
½ teaspoon mustard powder

Method

Blend all the ingredients in a blender except cream. Fold in the cream slowly and mix well. Refrigerate for 3 to 4 hours and use when required.
