Diarrhea is the condition where the person suffering from it will experience loose bowel movements that are accompanied by nausea, vomiting and cramps. Diarrhea is an unpleasant experience all though it will not create much discomfort in healthy adults who have no problem other than diarrhea due to some reason. If the diarrhea becomes chronic then it might be dangerous.
If the person suffering from diarrhea does not drink sufficient liquids then the situation might become complicated. There are two kinds of diarrhea like chronic and acute. Most people are common to acute or short term diarrhea which remains for about two days and disappear. This kind of diarrhea is called as non-inflammatory diarrhea. This is usually caused by virus or bacteria. Other reasons for acute diarrhea are lactose intolerance, over-the-counter antacids, sorbitol, antibiotics and vitamin C. Below are given some of the home remedies for diarrhea.
Home Remedies For Diarrhea
Drinking Plenty Of Fluids
It is necessary to drink lots of liquid though caffeine and alcohol associated drinks have to be avoided. The bowels can be made less fluid by taking carrot juice and ginger ale. The electrolytes like sodium and potassium supplementing fluids can be taken instead of taking plain water. Taking fruit juices and weak tea with little sugar in it will also work well.
The gas in the intestines can be sent out with the help of charcoal. Several illnesses can be resolved with the help of charcoal like vomiting, indigestion, nausea, diarrhea, intestinal bloating and high cholesterol. The reabsorption and dislodging of toxic substances can be prevented by charcoal which stands as a major choice for liver and kidney detoxification.
The bacterial culture in the yoghurt will help in forming proper lining of the intestines and protect the stomach from other harmful enemies. If the person is already suffering from diarrhea, production of lactic acid in the stomach will destroy all the harmful bacteria and makes the person to feel good. If the diarrhea results due to antibiotics then eating yoghurt will help in treating diarrhea. Because antibiotics will kill all the useful bacteria in the intestines while the live-culture will replace all the intestinal bacteria.
Allowing the body to take rest in a natural way is inevitable at this stage. Taking rest for some time and then drinking the warm broth with salt once in a while will work well for diarrhea. Keeping a hot pad on the belly will also help to get some relief.
The inflammation in the intestines can be handled by chamomile tea as it is known to have antispasmodic properties. One teaspoon of chamomile flowers can be made to steep into one cup of boiling water along with one teaspoon of peppermint leaves for about 15 to 20 minutes. This tea can be taken for three times in a day to show its effect against diarrhea.
Avoiding Some Food Items
The people suffering from diarrhea have to avoid taking certain foods like cheese, dairy products and milk. These foods are avoided during the period when they have the problem and also for few weeks after the diarrhea stops as well. This is because the intestine will not have sufficient capability to condense these foods. The high-fiber foods are also avoided as it is hard for the intestine to manage their digestion.
