Chilblains is a condition that is associated with redness and itching of the skin. People are often prone to it in winter and cold whether conditions. Exposure to sudden and extreme heat immediately in cold climates causes chilblains. It can be hereditary. It is also caused due to extreme exposure to cold.
Poor blood circulation and poor diet are major contributing factors. Deficiency of calcium and silica cause this problem. Chilblains usually affects areas like toes, fingers and face. It is also accompanied by cracking and blisters hence very painful sometimes. Chilblains can be naturally cured by taking good precautions and keeping warm in cold climates.
Natural Cures For Chilblains
Marigold flowers are easily available and grown abundantly in tropical climates. The marigold flowers are boiled in water for sometime to make a deep infusion. It is allowed to become warm. Hands and feet are soaked in this water. This reduces itching and relaxes the skin.
For temporary and quick relief from chilblains lemon works well as it is very effective in naturally treating chilblains. Cut a slice of fresh lemon and rub the wedge on the effected area. Lemon might cause burning sensation if the skin is cracked hence to prevent this, warm the vegetable oil slightly and mix it with lemon juice and use it for topical application.
Take a slice potato and dip it in salt. Rub this slice on to the skin. It reduces redness and soothes the area. It is one of the simplest and easily available cure for chilblains.
Turnips are also considered best for relieving symptoms of chilblains. Grate turnips and apply this paste on to the skin for sometime and leave it. Alternatively infuse hot boiling water with turnips. Let the water cool. Soak the affected parts of the skin in this infusion for sometime.
A slice of onion can be simply rubbed on to the chilblains to reduce redness and inflammation. A gentle massage helps improve blood circulation thus healing chilblains faster.
Though cayenne is extremely hot for treating chilblains, it has to be ued with caution. Cayenne can be gently applied by rubbing on to the skin. It can also be mixed with oil to prevent cracking.
Peppermint leaves are highly effective as they produce soothing and cooling effects on the skin. peppermint leaves are boiled in water and the affected areas are soaked in this water for sometime to provide relief.
Take few cloves of fresh raw garlic. Prepare garlic juice and massage it on to the affected areas of the skin and leave it for sometime. Garlic has excellent healing properties hence is considered effective for treatment of chilblains.
Peppercorns are ground thoroughly well and fried slightly in coconut oil. Mustard oil is also used alternatively. After some time the peppercorns are strained leaving the oil. The oil should be massaged gently on to the effected area. Care should be taken that the oil is not too hot. The coconut oil helps prevent abrasions and moisturises the skin thus reducing further infection of the skin.
