Princess Cakes Make the next birthday of your little princess extremely special and unique by making a princess cake for her. Not only will it serve as a source of delight for your little child, but will also ensure that you cake becomes the hot topic amongst all your guests.

Princess cakes are extremely easy to prepare and can be made ahead of the party to save time as well. Cake dolls are easily available at most of the cake decoration and party stores, which can be used to prepare this cake. Alternatively, you can also take a toy doll and wrap it up in cling film and then use it to make the princess cake.

For the Sponge

Egg – 3 (medium)
Butter, softened – 175 grams
Self raising flour – 175 grams
Caster Sugar – 175 grams

For Decoration and Icing

Cake doll / Barbie doll
Buttercream icing
Fondant icing (white and any bright color like pink)
Edible cake decorations like flowers or silver balls


Preheat your oven to a temperature of 375 degree Fahrenheit or gas level 5. Take a dome shaped cake tin or a Pyrex bowl and line it using a baking paper. If you do not have baking paper, you can also grease the tin using melted butter and then spread some flour all over it.

Measure flour, butter and caster sugar and make sure to use equal amounts of all these three ingredients. Cream the sugar and butter together till it become fluffy and light and turn pale in color. After this add in one egg at a time along with a little flour with each of the eggs. Whisk together well and then fold in the remaining flour by adding a little bit at a time.

Pour the batter prepared for the sponge cake into the lined cake tin and tap on the surface to level it out. Place the tin on the center rack in the oven and then bake for about 20 minutes till the sponge rises and turns golden in color, and spring back when pressed in its centre lightly. Remove from the oven and leave on a wire rack to cool down to room temperature before icing it.

Once the sponge cools down completely, cover the entire cake using a thin buttercream icing layer. After this, spread white fondant icing on the top of the buttercream layer. Make pleats in the front part of the cake to give it the appearance of a skirt.

Remove the legs from your Barbie and then cut a small hole on the top of your cake to fit her inside it.

Layer the top of the Barbie using the colored fondant icing and spread a little over the top of the part when the white icing has been done to give it an illusion of an overskirt and top.

Decorate the skirt of the princess cake using different decorations such as edible flowers and silver balls. Do any decoration you can to make the Barbie princess look pretty.
