Here Is Homemade Peanut Butter Recipe
Cooking Time: 15 minutes
Serves: 1½ cups
Raw and shelled peanuts – 2 cups
Kosher Salt – ½ teaspoon
Peanut oil – 1-2 tablespoons (optional), for creamier PB
Honey / Other Sweetener (optional), for sweeter PB
Optional Add-ins: ½ teaspoon cinnamon, a few spoons of nutella, 1 tablespoon cocoa powder, handful of chocolate chips (for extra flavor)
Heat your oven to a temperature of 350 degrees Fahrenheit and then place the peanuts on a baking tray and toast for 10 minutes till they become slightly golden and glossy. In case you are using pre-roasted nuts, you can skip this step. Roasting provides a deeper flavor to the butter and loosens the oils, thus making it easier to blend smoothly.
Transfer the peanuts to a blender or food processor while they are still warm and pulse few times till they are just chopped up. If you wish to make chunky peanut butter, remove ½ cup nuts at this point and keep aside. Process the mixture for another 1 minute continuously, then stop and scrape the sides. At this point, the peanut butter will look dry and gritty, just like couscous.
Run your blender again for another 1 minute continuously after which you need to stop again and scrape the sides and bottom like before. Now the peanut butter will begin to clump together, but will not be quite like actual peanut butter just yet. Again repeat the same process and process the mixture for another minute and then scrape the sides. At this time, the peanut butter should look soft and glossy, quite like thick peanut butter. Now add the oil, salt, sweetener and any other flavors you wish to add into the mixture. Finally, process for another 1-2 minutes till the butter becomes completely smooth. If you had reserved chopped nuts in the first step for making chunky peanut butter, you can add them now and give a few additional pulses just to incorporate the pieces in the peanut butter. There you have it! Delicious, healthy, homemade peanut butter ready to serve!
Store the prepared peanut butter in a clean air-tight storage container. You can refrigerate this butter and use for several weeks.
