Deliciously crispy onion rings are the best and most popular fast food in the world. These onion treats are served as a great appetizer. These incredible onion rings are made from slices of onion coated with batter and are deep fried. Here is my recipe to make these crispy deep fried onions which are yummy to taste and easy to make.
Ingredients For Onion Rings
3 Large onions
2 cup all purpose flour (maida)
3 tsp cornstarch
½ tsp pepper powder
½ tsp baking powder
Salt to taste
Oil for frying
First take onions and peel them then cut them into thick round slices. Now separate the outer big slices and keep away the middle portion, only use the outer big slices to make these onion rings. Sprinkle some salt on these outer rings and keep them aside.
To make the batter take a large mixing bowl and put the all purpose flour (maida), cornstarch, pepper powder, baking powder and salt. Mix the dry mixture gently then add sufficient water step by step to make a thick batter. Check the batter by dipping a spoon if the batter coats the back of a spoon evenly thin means it is perfect.
Now whip this batter thoroughly for quite some time till the batter becomes fluffy. Take a kadai and heat oil for deep frying this onion rings. Mean while pat dry onion rings on a thick kitchen towel. Once the oil is ready and smoky reduce the flame and dip onion rings in the batter and put them in the kadai to deep fry.
Ensure that they do not touch each other; turn them gently till they are crisp and golden in color. Remove and drain out the excess oil on an absorbent paper. Your real crunchy onion rings are ready. Serve hot with dipping sauce or any sauce of your choice.
Fry a small batch each time to avoid the rings sticking to each other. Ensure the oil is not too hot as it may burn the rings. You can use buttermilk to make the batter for a variation.
You can coat your onion rings with bread crumbs after dipping them into batter for a variation. You can try with different types of flour for a variation.
Hot And Spicy Dipping Sauce
1/4 teaspoon dried Oregano
¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoon tomato ketchup
3 tablespoons horseradish sauce
1 teaspoon paprika
Salt to taste
To make sauce take a mixing bowl and combine mayonnaise, ketchup, horseradish, paprika, salt, oregano, ground black pepper, cayenne pepper and mix well. Refrigerate for about 20 minutes to let the flavors combine together and then use as and when required.
You can also try honey mustard based dipping sauces You can also try with sour cream and ketchup and mixed together season with some garlic and ground black pepper to make a great dip.
Take some mayonnaise, some powdered curry, little fresh lemon juice, little hot pepper sauce to taste and mix it all together and refrigerate for about an hour.
