Crispy Chicken Pakoda Recipe

Crispy Chicken Pakoda Recipe Chicken pakoda is a crispy snack prepared by dipping chicken pieces in a batter of gram flour and various aromatic spices. It is then deep-fried and served with tomato ketchup or fresh mint chutney.

You can enjoy a plate of hot chicken pakodas on a cold rainy day while chatting with your friends or spending some relaxing time with your family during the evening. This popular non-vegetarian snack can also be served as a delicious starter dish during various parties and occasions. Chicken contains some of the most vital nutrients like niacin, selenium and Vitamin B6 to name only few. Chicken also has low fat content. Prepare the delicious chicken pakodas at home and savour them with sweet and sour mint chutney.

Ingredients:

Chicken- 1 kg
Ginger- 2 slices
Gram flour- 1 cup
Small cardamom- 8
Cinnamon- 4
Clove- 4-5
Garlic- 10-12 pods
Green chillies- 5-6
Cumin seeds- 1 teaspoon
Red chilli powder- 2 teaspoons
Coriander powder- 2 teaspoons
Refined oil- For frying
Salt- To taste

Ingredients for Mint Chutney:

Mint leaves- 1 bunch
Tamarind- ½ teaspoon
Green chillies- 2
Black pepper- ½ teaspoon
Salt- To taste
Sugar- 1 teaspoon
Lemon juice- ½ teaspoon

For Garnishing:

Tomato- 2 (big)
Onion- 2 (big)

Method of Preparation:

1) Wash the chicken very well and boil it. Now cut the chicken into small pieces and separate the bones.

2) Put the ginger, cardamom, cloves, cinnamon, garlic, green chillies, coriander powder, cumin seeds and red chilli powder into the mixer and make a fine paste.

3) Take a big bowl and mix the masala paste with the chicken pieces. Add adequate amounts of gram flour and coat the chicken properly with the gram flour. Use your hands to mix the masala with the chicken. You can also add very little water if required. Keep the marinated chicken aside for 20-25 minutes.

4) Put a big frying pan on the flame. Add generous amount of oil for deep frying. Let the oil heat for few seconds. Prepare small balls from the marinated chicken. Now lower the flame and put one chicken ball at a time into the oil. Fry the chicken balls properly until they turn crisp and golden brown in colour. Remove from the pan and put the chicken pakodas on a tissue paper to get rid of any excess oil.

5) Now prepare the mint chutney. Add 3 cups water into a big bowl and put the tamarind into this water. Now mash the tamarind nicely with your hands to get a juicy pulp. Strain the tamarind juice through a sieve to get rid of the seeds. Now put the mint leaves, tamarind juice, black pepper, chopped green chillies, sugar, lemon juice and salt into the mixer and make a smooth paste. The mint chutney is ready. Pour the chutney into a bowl and keep it aside.

6) Cut the tomatoes and onions into thin rings. Put the pakodas on a big plate and garnish with tomato slices and onion slices. You can also sprinkle little chat masala on top of the chicken pakodas. Serve hot with mint chutney or tomato ketchup.
