Body acne is very similar to facial acne. People who have facial acne are more prone to get body acne. Body acne is formed when the pores in our skin gets clogged by oil, dirt, or dead skin. Sweat is a primary factor that leads to body acne.
The sebaceous glands in our body are responsible for the oil or sebum that is produced in the skin. During humid or hot conditions they tend to be overactive and produce more sebum which will block the pores leading to eruptions. Stress is another important factor. We tend to get skin breakouts when our body is in a highly stressful situation. Any change in climatic conditions like moving to a new place can also give rise to body acne. Some people may develop body acne as a result of an illness and as a side effect to a prescribed medication.
Treatment for Acne
Hygiene is an important factor in controlling body acne. You cannot stop acne from coming but you can control it by cleaning and cleansing the skin regularly. Use mild cleansing agents to clean the skin and do it with a gentle scrub. Using cleansing gents with glycolic acid or salicylic acid is beneficial as they have the ability to unclog the pores exfoliate gently.
Do not scrub the skin vigorously as it might worsen the condition. Baths are more helpful in dealing with body acne. You can submerge your body in warm water mixed with sea salts or Epsom salts. This slowly loosens up the skin and help in getting rid of the dead skin.
Avoid oily foods and fried food
Foods with high sweet content like chocolates, ice creams and pastries and foods with high salt content like pickles, preserved meat may trigger acne. Drink lots of water at least 8 to 10 cups a day so as to flush out the toxins in the body.
You need to consult a physician in the initial stages of body acne so that you can keep it in control. The initial stage will involve topical treatments involving the usage of creams with benzoyl peroxide and topical erythromycin. If the acne is not arrested by this, then you may need to go in for oral medication.
Clothing Choose light and airy fabrics when you have body acne. Use of harsh fabrics like synthetics and rexins will worsen the situation. Give room for the skin pores to breathe and be fresh. Heavy materials will block the air supply, create excess sweat and oil. Of course, in winters we cannot avoid heavy clothing, but make sure the feel of the fabric is soft and does not irritate the skin.A hygenic lifestyle and use of topical medication can control and cure body acne to a large extent.
