Pleurisy is a lung condition where in the pleura get inflamed. The pleura is the double covering or membrane that surrounds and protects the lungs. The pleura gets inflamed that causes sharp pain that eventually spreads to the shoulders. The inflammation of pleura blocks circulation and causes difficulty in breathing.
It causes congestion in the chest and the pleural membranes get inflamed leading to severe cough. Breathing gets difficult. Pleurisy is followed by high temperature or chills and weakness due to severe cough.
Natural Cures For Pleurisy
In the initial stages or at the immediate onset of pleurisy, the patient has to fast by abstaining from any kind of food. Water has to be taken regularly. The amount of water has to be gradually increased to six glasses a day. All solid foods should be avoided.
The root of the burdock herb is used in treatment of pleurisy. It is used as a main ingredient of medicine used for pleurisy. A deep concoction of the root is prepared and consumed. It reduces inflammation and relieves stress.
Rosemary is a traditional herb used to treat ailments. Rosemary oil is used for treating pleurisy. The oil is warmed and rubbed on to the chest. It can also be consumed in the form hot tea.
Mullein is a herb that relieves symptoms of pleurisy. Mullein oil is rubbed well on to the chest. It is also applied on saturated Cotton and used as a cover over the chest. Decotion or deep infusion of the mullein tea is taken. It acts as a natural anti inflammatory agent. It can also be mixed with other herbs for effective treatment. It can also be combined with onion or garlic as they help in loosening and breaking up the mucus clearing the airways.
Hot Water Bath
A hot water bath can be taken for one hour daily as it is found to be beneficial. The hot steam vapours help in relieving pain and clears chest congestion. The temperature of water has to be maintained at 100F.
A hot water pack can be applied thrice a day regularly. The warmth reduces sharp pain associated with pleurisy. Cold packs can be applied if the patient is suffering from high temperature. Allow it to remain for one hour.
Fresh raw juices of vegetables like carrot, beet root and onion help in treating pleurisy. Alternatively fresh organise fruit juices of lemon, orange and papaya also successfully help in treating it.
A patient suffering from pleurisy becomes weak and suffers from high temperatures. A lot of rest is advised so as to prevent weakness. Fresh air should always be maintained in the room. Deep breathing exercises have to be regularly done.
Green tea has antioxidant and also anti-inflammatory properties. Hot brewing herbal tea helps relieve stress and clears mucus from the bronchial passages and eases pain associated with pleurisy.
Vitamin E can applied on to the chest and rubbed. It can also be mixed with tocopherols and applied daily. It is proved and testified to be very effective in treating pleurisy when compared to all other remedies.
