Dark circles are nothing but the discolouring of the skin below the eyes. The skin there tends to appear a few shades darker than the face and becomes sunken. This kind of problem is commonly experienced and suffered by a lot of people today.
It makes people look tired and older than their age and robs their faces of their beauty. The skin underneath the eyes is very thin and delicate and has no oil glands to keep it moisturised. So it often dries up and turns dark. Here are a few home remedies that can be followed to get rid of those unsightly dark circles:
Home Remedies For Under Eye Dark Circles
Rich in Vitamin C, lemon is known for its skin-lightening property. Dab two cotton balls in some lemon juice and apply them under the eyes. Leave them for ten minutes and rinse off. Lemon juice can also be mixed with the cucumber juice mentioned above and applied. Lemon juice mixed with tomato juice is a Vitamin C treasure and is very good for external application in case of dark circles.
Cucumber is the most popular remedial home item used to treat dark circles. It can be used in two ways. First is to make round slices of chilled cucumber and applying it over the eyelids. It can be left for 15 minutes and then the eyes rinsed with water. Second is to grate cucumber and squeeze out its juice. This juice can be applied with the help of a cotton wool around the eyes and on the eyelids and kept for 10 minutes before finally washing off with warm water.
5 to 6 drops of rose water can be poured on a cotton wool and applied over the eyes for about 15 minutes. It not just reduces the darkness, but also soothes and rejuvenates the skin around the eyes.
Almond And Honey
Almond has an exfoliating property and tightens the skin. Hence it is good for dark circles. Honey on the other hand is a great moisturiser. You can make a paste of crushed almonds and honey and put it around your eyes. Remove and rinse after 10 minutes.
Turmeric And Pineapple
Turmeric has anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidizing properties while Pineapple is Vitamin C rich and an antioxidant too. Together they help in revitalising the skin. To benefit from them, make a paste of turmeric and pineapple juice and apply it on your dark circles. Remove them after ten minutes with the help of a soft cloth. Repeating this process once a day can get you rid of the dark circles in just a week.
Chamomile Tea Bags
Chamomile tea has anti-inflammatory properties. Dip these tea bags in water and place them on your closed eyes. Keep them for about 20 minutes after which you can rinse your eyes with cold water.
Drink at least 10 glasses of water a day for preventing dark circles arising out of dehydration. Limit your coffee and cigarette intake, because they induce dehydration. Sleep at least 7 hours daily. Lack of sleep is a prime cause of dark circles. If you have to work on a computer for long hours, take breaks every half an hour by looking away from the computer screen for a minute. Follow these remedies and tips and get ready to fall in love with what you see in the mirror soon.
