Abscesses are sore eruptions surrounded by a red area. They are warm and tender and can be easily felt by touching. The middle part of an abscess contains pus and dead skin cells. They generally appear around the anus and vagina, in the armpits, groin area, base of the spine and around a tooth. Abscesses occur when the oil glands or the sweat glands become blocked due to infections. Tiny cuts in the skin allow the germs to get under the skin and block the glands. Sometimes inflamed hair follicles can also cause abscesses.
A weakened immune system and certain diseases like cancer, diabetes and AIDS also cause abscesses. The center of the abscess is soft as it is filled with pus that contains bacteria, dead cells and other debris. It continues to grow and causes the skin to become taut. The surrounding tissues inflame further and cause a lot of pain and pressure. Most abscesses come to a head when they have developed fully. If the infection spreads deep into the skin then there is fever.
Home Remedies For Abscesses
Abscesses are very painful. It is important to drain the pus out of them in order to heal. Remove the gel from a fresh aloe vera leaf. Mash the gel and mix some turmeric powder with it. Warm the mixture and apply it on the abscess. Cover with a soft gauze and bandage the area. Apply a fresh coating and change the dressing when going to bed. Keep doing this, and within a few days the abscess will be cured completely.
Grind some neem leaves to a fine paste. Apply the paste on the boil and place a few neem leaves over it. Bandage the whole with soft gauze. Change the dressing every few hours and you must keep it overnight. Do this, everyday. Neem will destroy the infection and will help the abscess to come to head. The pus will drain out quickly and the pain and inflammation will vanish altogether.
Make a thick paste with turmeric powder and slaked lime or chuna paste. You can buy the chuna paste from any paan shop. Coat the abscess thickly with this mixture. Bandage the area. Reapply the paste every few hours. The infection will be destroyed quickly and the boil will soon come to a head. Chuna paste will cleanse the abscess thoroughly and heal it rapidly.
Heat some ghee and add a pinch of turmeric powder to it. Apply the paste on the boil and cover it with a hot roti that has been baked only on one side. The unbaked side should be on the boil. Bandage the whole with a soft gauze. Repeat this procedure three times daily. Ghee and turmeric will work together to destroy the infection and reduce the pain and inflammation. The moist heat from the roti will bring the boil to a head very quickly and heal it.
Grind some fresh methi leaves to a fine paste. Cover the abscess with the paste and leave it to dry. Reapply after every three hours. The abscess will disappear very quickly.
