Beauty may be skin deep and may lie in the eyes of the beholder, but there is no denying that a bright face with a clear complexion does wonders to one’s self confidence. What can better testify this than the fact that a humongous amount of money is spent globally on the making and marketing of beauty products? This beauty fixation is no longer a woman’s domain. Men are increasingly becoming more conscious and proactive in their beauty regimen; again, a slew of products designed especially for men stands testimony to this growing phenomenon. A trip to the friendly neighbourhood supermarket is never complete without checking out the shelves for newer and better products to enhance one’s skin colour and complexion.
It is, however, worthwhile to keep in mind that skin colour, to a large extent, is determined by our genetics and no amount of external treatment will bring about dramatic changes. The prudent thing to do would be to focus, instead, on keeping the skin clean and radiant by protecting it from sun and other environmental damage – which brings us to the cardinal rule of skin care – cleansing, toning, moisturising and protecting.
Tips To Take Care Of Your Face
This is one ritual that is impossible to do away with. It is imperative to keep the skin clean throughout the day. Cleansers are the best bet for daily skin care with face scrubs coming in a close second. One is spoilt for choice when choosing cleansers. There is one for everyone, and choosing one based on the skin type would be the most logical thing to do. Cleansing the face two to three times a day is optimal but oily skin types might benefit from more frequent cleansing.
The jury is still out on what exactly a toner does, but it can be said that toning helps in lessening skin pores as also the size of the pores. While some note that toning has a drying effect on the skin, others find that it instantly brightens the face, so it can be safely assumed that oily skin types would be better off using toners. Those with dry skin can use a very mild toner, like rose water, to get the same benefit minus the drying effect.
This is as, if not more, important than cleansing. A moisturiser promptly replenishes the skin’s lost moisture after washing/cleansing. Again, the choice of moisturiser should be dictated by the skin type. Oily skin types can benefit from light, water-based moisturisers and dry skin is better served by creamier, oil-based ones.
This chiefly refers to protection from the sun’s rays. Sunscreens and sun blocks should be used religiously, especially while outdoors. This would go a long way in keeping the skin safe from the sun’s UV radiations, which are known to cause various skin problems. As with everything, it would help to do a due diligence and be judicious in using skin products. Apart from the commercially available skin products, there is a plethora of natural, readily available products which can be used to improve the complexion. Honey, lemon juice, milk cream, etc. are just a few of these.
When used appropriately, these products can do wonders to one’s complexion. Not to forget, one cannot undermine the importance of leading a healthy, active lifestyle which incorporates sensible eating with moderate exercise, in enhancing one’s overall personality.
