When most women think of the early signs of pregnancy they assume a missed period to be on top of everything. Many times most of them won’t notice the early signs of pregnancy until the fertilised egg attaches itself to the uterine wall, several days after the conception.
But if anybody is extremely tuned in to her body’s rhythm, she may experience some changes in her body even before a missed period.
By the time a woman notice a missed period, some early signs of pregnancy may have made themselves known. These early signs of pregnancy can be overlooked by some while these can surely be noticed by a sensitive mother-to-be.
Early Signs of Pregnancy
Basal Body Temperature
Elevated basal body temperature can be a subtle but important early sign of pregnancy. Basal body temperature is the lowest body temperature that happens during the resting period. It begins to elevate after the ovulation and stays increased beyond the next expected period.
One half to one degree Fahrenheit increase in the basal body temperature can be the first early warning sign for pregnancy. So, if you feel the change in basal body temperature you have every reason to doubt that the big time is near.
Nausea and Vomiting
This obvious and common sign of pregnancy generally makes their way after a missed period. But many women may experience this even earlier. Known popularly as ‘morning sickness’, this uncomfortable and early sign of pregnancy may sometimes occur one week after the fertilised egg attaches itself to the uterine wall that is 7 to 8 days before a missed period.
While morning sickness generally occurs because of the increased hormone levels in expecting mother’s body, doctors feel it is a good sign of healthy pregnancy.
Food A Version
While food craving is a normal symptom of pregnancy, it’s definitely not one of those early ones. On the contrary, food aversion is yet another early sign of pregnancy. A food craving especially cravings for chocolates or sweets may surely be a PMS symptom but aversion to food is never a PMS sign.
So, if you suddenly start feeling aversion towards certain foods or when morning cup of coffee seems no more appealing, this could surely be an early sign of pregnancy.
Fatigue and Exhaustion
Tiredness is quite a normal bodily function after a hard day’s labour which would diminish after a good night’s sleep. But if you feel excessive fatigue or exhaustion or feel too sleepy even after a perfect night’s sleep then you can assume this fatigue to be a sign of certain disorder or other conditions including pregnancy.
A dramatic rise in the level of hormone progesterone in the pregnant woman’s body sometimes causes a huge strain and as a result that woman may feel fatigue and exhaustion. So, fatigue can also be a sure early sign of pregnancy.
Delicate Sense of Smelling
A sudden heightened sense of smelling can also be a sure early sign of pregnancy. Many women may suddenly start feeling the stinking odour of almost everything around them. Sometimes the normal or otherwise nice smell of food may make many pregnant women feel sick.
It’s not that the olfactory system gets any better during the pregnancy period rather it’s a natural early pregnancy symptom that many women experience. So, if you suddenly start noticing the smell of everything around you there is reason that you are pregnant.
Areolas and Increased Breast Size
Breast enlargement or areolas are very early and classic signs of pregnancy. But many times the new pregnant mothers won’t notice these and blame the matter on ill-fitting inners. But the sensitive mothers would notice the change and would realize that a new life is beginning inside her body.
The areolas happen in anticipation of breastfeeding the new born. When all these depend totally on the hormonal changes inside the body, many experts say that areolas may serve a purpose and that is to help the new born find the nipples easily.
Another subtle yet often overlooked early symptom of pregnancy is constipation. Less than three bowel movements in a week can be defined as constipation.
The fluctuating hormones during pregnancy slow down the movement of food through the digestive system which causes the constipation. So, even before a missed period this really can give you a clue about your pregnancy.
Frequent Trips to Toilet
Frequent urination during later part of pregnancy is common but sometimes this can happen during the very early period of your pregnancy. During pregnancy the blood volume increases dramatically inside the pregnant mother’s body which in turn causes the kidneys to work hard to process the extra fluids. As a result, a pregnant mother may need to use the toilet quite frequently.
So, if you are considering pregnancy and are paying some extra trips to bathroom these days your doubts may not be overruled. These are the early signs of pregnancy which make their ways even before a missed period.
So, if you are in doubt whether you can be pregnant this time you can go through these early signs of pregnancy to figure out whether you are ready with the big news.
