Make idlis and let them cool a bit. Then cut them into cubes and drizzle a spoon of lemon juice and keep aside. In a pan, heat some oil and add mustard seeds, cumin, whole dried red chillies, a spoon of chana dal and hing. Once fried, add a spoonful of chopped green chillies. Add a dash of turmeric powder followed by the cubed idlis and salt. Mix well and check for salt and lemon juice. add little more if necessary. Take off the flame, garnish with fresh chopped coriander and serve hot.
If you have made idlis but need an extra dish, make this quick and healthy upma with them. Take the cooked idlis in a bowl and lightly crumble them with your hand. Take care it does not become a paste. In a pan, add all the tempering ingredients like mustard seeds, cumin, hing along with chopped green chilli and chopped onion. Add some grated carrot too. Stir fry it till done and then add the crumbled idli along with some salt. Mix well and cook for a few more minutes. Sprinkle a little oil if necessary and mix well.
