Home Remedies for Ear Congestion
Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar or ACV is a popular treatment for fluid buildup in the ears. Mix equal quantities of ACV and alcohol in a bowl. Dribble some drops of the mix into the clogged ear. Do not raise your head for some time. This will ensure that the solution stands in the ear. Remove the solution after sometime (10 minutes) using a cotton ball.
This is effective for not only reliving ear congestion, but also for clearing infection and treating stuffy ears. Add 3 crushed garlic cloves to a little olive oil and heat it for some time. Once the oil reaches moderate temperature, put some of this garlic infused oil into the blocked ear and leave it for a minute. Drain it out to get instant relief from ear congestion.
Tea Tree Oil
The antiseptic as well as anti-inflammatory properties of the oil help cure blocked ears and infections effectively. Mix some tea tree oil with olive oil and warm the mixture a bit. Drip down some drops of this blended oil in the affected ear and leave it for 2 minutes. This will drain out the clogged mucous and will relive ear congestion.
Boil 2 to 3 garlic cloves for a few minutes. Crush these cloves to make a paste and add some salt to it. Blend them well and place it in a clean cloth, so that it can be used as a compress on the affected ear 2 to 3 times in a day. This will relieve plugged ears and cure infections.
Salt-water gargle is an age-old remedy for clearing out the infections that might have caused ear congestion. Add some salt to warm water and mix it well. Use this water for gargling. Gargle for at least 10 minutes twice a day to clear ear congestion and ease pain.
A hot compress is the best treatment for plugged ears. Take some hot water in a bowl and dip a clean cloth in it. Squeeze the excess fluid and hold the cloth against the clogged ear for 5 minutes. Repeat this several times to drain the fluid out.
Olive oil is a good decongestion agent. It aids in relieving clogged ears by softening the wax and draining the mucous out of the ears. Trickle down some drops of warm olive oil into the plugged ear. Leave it for 5 minutes and allow it to drain out. Clean the ears with a cotton ball without damaging the internal ear.
Take some hot water in a big bowl. Add some drops of any essential oil. Now, inhale the steam by covering the head with a large towel. Inhaling steam will loosen up the mucous. It will help in softening the congestion in your ear, sinus and nose. It loosens up earwax too.
In case the ear congestion or earwax is too stubborn then using glycerin is a perfect remedy. Take some drops of mineral oil or glycerin. Mix well with about ½ a glass of lukewarm water. Using a dropper put 2 to 3 drops of the liquid into the blocked ear. Make sure to keep the head tilted. Let the liquid stand for about ten minutes before draining it out.
Nasal Saline Spray
Allergic inflammation caused because of sinus infection may be one of the reasons for ear congestion. The nasal saline spray works as a mild decongestant thereby giving you relief from the problem. All you need is 1 cup of water, ½ tsp baking soda, and ¼-1/2 tsp non-iodized salt, dropper, pan and sterilized bottle. Boil the water. Bring this sterilized water to room temperature. Now, add salt, baking soda and non-iodized salt. Fill the solution in sterilized bottle. Use this to decongest your ears and nose.
